The Bemidji Community Art Center is pleased to present Dr. Beverly Everett as our 20th Friend of the Arts.  You are invited to  join us in welcoming Dr Everett at our annual Friend of the Arts Celebration on Wednesday May 21st, at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave.

Social hour and hors d’ oeuvres from 5pm to 7pm with the award presentation at 6pm.  Advance tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts, the Wild Hare Bistro & Coffee House, 523 Minnesota Ave. or for $15 at the door.

The BCAC Friend of the Arts Celebration is sponsored, in part, by our Business Partners, First National Bank of Bemidji, Paul Bunyan Telephone, Keenan’s Cabinets of Distinction, North Country Health Services and Kraus Anderson Construction.  Refreshments provided by Wild Hare Bistro & Coffee House.  The BCAC would also like to recognize photographer Monte Draper and John Holden, Professor of Visual Arts at Bemidji State University, for their assistance in recognizing our Friend of the Arts honorees.

Despite construction on Bemidji Ave/Hwy 197 the BCAC played host to the annual 5th Grade Invitational art show.  Large crowds of artists, their families and friends attended the First Friday Art Walk on May 2nd from 4 to 7pm.  Those attending were treated to 100′s of pieces of art from pastels, paper mache, sculpture, watercolors, pen & ink drawings, pencil, string art, ceramic and plaster sculpture, mobiles and more.  This annual show featuring work by 5th graders in ISD 31 and special guest schools Red Lake Elementary and School Craft Learning Community runs now through May  17th.

The first annual self guided First City of Arts Studio Cruise is an Art Crawl open for artists within a 40-mile radius of Bemidji in the Region II Arts Council’s area and for Native American artists within a 40-mile radius.  This is an opportunity for artists to invite the public into their studios and showcase their art and crafts October 17, 18 & 19, 2008.  For more detail on how to participate go to this link or contact Paula J.
